Your Trusted Source For Tie Rod Ends Information And Pricing

What Are Tie Rod Ends?

Very simply put, they are the ends of your tie rods. All tie rods have an inner and outer end. If you have a MacPherson suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, the tie rod connects the rack to the steering knuckle.

If you have a conventional suspension system, the tie rods connect to the centre link of the steering knuckle. They also cnnect to the recirculating ball steering gears.

What Do Tie Rod Ends Do?

The main function of the tie rod is to tranfer force from the centre link (conventional) or the rack gear (MacPherson) to the steering knucle. This tranfer of force allows the wheels to turn.

The outer Tie Rod End connects with an adjusting sleeve. This allows the length of the tie rod to be adjustable. Why is this important? Because this adjustment is used to set the vehicle's toe. This is a critical part of aligning your automobile.

Regular Maintenance And Trouble-Shooting

Your vehicle's steering and suspension systems should be checked regularly. We rcommend at least once a year. This should also include a complete wheel alignment. How do I know if I need new Tie Rods or Tie Rod Ends?

A worn tie rod end can cause wandering, erratic steering, and excessive tire wear. So if you find that steering is not as reliable as it once was, check your tires for uneven wear. If parts replacement is necessary, a wheel alignment is also required because your tie rod and Tie Rod End replacement disturbs the toe setting.
